Some days my kids drive me crazy, and other days, I make myself crazy. Yesterday was one of those days. My friend Rachel calls it a Kamikaze Day. One of those days where you decide you're going to do EVERYTHING. And it MUST get done NOW! NOW! NOW! After I blogged about moving on and pretending we're not moving, Dave and I talked about it, and we now think we're insane for attempting to buy that house. But I'll save that for another post...in any case it spurred on an insane decorating frenzy.
Wednesday I went and bought shades and blinds. The blind I bought for the living room window looked horrid so I went looking for other options. I decided to do this:
Now, before you think, "Why is that insane?" Well. First of all, I went to Target THREE TIMES. Two DIFFERENT Targets. This is the second set of curtains that I bought because the first one turned out to be not a good color. Prior to putting the curtains up...
I made the extremely rash decision to take down Ethan's crib and assemble his new toddler bed. (Which I found on clearance at Target during Trip #1...and then found a nicer color at the second Target so I returned the first one during Trip #2.) I tried to do all this with both boys awake and in the same room. Bad idea. Both boys were climbing all over the furniture, making off with the screws and tossing around the wooden pieces of the toddler bed. I tried to block them out of the room with a pack n play, and they climbed over it. I tried to close the door and then Noah got hurt so I decided maybe I should be supervising just a tad better. So I spent most of the assembling barking orders at my children and basically acquiring many many Bad Mommy Points. I did end up giggling when Ethan ran behind me while I was sitting on the floor and informed me that, "Your butt is hangin out!" Thanks, bud. Maybe those low-rise jeans should be reconsidered...
In any case, I did finish the toddler bed and put Ethan down for his very first nap after a very serious discussion about the consequences that would ensue should he get out of the bed.
He did great. He didn't actually fall asleep, but he did stay in the bed for an hour and 15 minutes. He made it all night long too, and when Dave went to get him up this morning, he was awake, but still laying in bed. Yea for compliant children. Noah, on the other hand, is probably already scheming about how to get around the "stay in bed" rule.
Kamikaze Days are pretty mentally and physically tiring. I foresee that more such days are in my future because I have lots of ideas floating around in my mind.

wow, your living room looks great. Isn't it fun to improve your house a little at a time? I've been enjoying some little projects over the past couple of months and it's so rewarding!
ReplyDeleteMore then once I've let Sadie keep her self occupied while I'm working on something only to discover, she really needs to be supervised better:) I may get something done on my list, but I pay for it in an extra long clean up effort from whatever Sadie got into!
